A Day Built for Celebrating

Huntsville's Fourth of July traditions run deep. Early risers can kick things off with the Freedom 5K and Independence Mile, winding through downtown and historic Old Town. And when the sun goes down, the skies light up—from the over-the-river spectacular at Ditto Landing (always celebrated the Saturday before the 4th) to neighborhood shows across the Tennessee Valley.

This Year: A Celebration 250 Years in the Making

2026 brings something extra special, as Huntsville joins the nationwide celebration of America's 250th anniversary with an all-day downtown event in Big Spring Park. The afternoon kicks off with a vendor market, food trucks, live music, and historical reenactments bringing the past to life. At 5 PM, the "American Eras" Parade takes center stage—entries telling the story of America from before the Revolution all the way to a bold vision of the next 250 years. As evening settles in, live music takes over the park, leading up to a fireworks show.
